The inaugural edition of the LK Short Film Festival was held in Kochi in 2025, reaffirming its place as one of India’s most exciting independent film platforms. By celebrating creativity, culture, and storytelling, the event offered an extraordinary stage for new voices in cinema.
Inaugurated by acclaimed Manipuri filmmaker Haobam Paban Kumar, the event began with a welcome address by Festival Director Rajesh Puthenpurayil. Distinguished guests included Dr. Biju, Vidhu Vincent, Sundardas, A. K. Sajan, Rajeev Rangan, and V. K. Joseph, President of the Film Federation of India. Cultural performances added vibrancy to the evening.
More than 420 short films were submitted from across India, with selected entries screened at Gokulam Convention Centre, Kochi. Over 1,500 participants attended, exploring a wide range of fiction, documentary, experimental, and animation films.
Renowned filmmakers T. V. Chandran, Kamal, Sibi Malayil, and Haobam Paban Kumar led an engaging discussion on independent cinema, industry trends, and global collaborations.

Kerala’s Minister for Ports and Museums, Kadannappalli Ramachandran, inaugurated the closing ceremony. Awards were presented for Best Short Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Actor, and Best Actress. The event concluded with a Western music concert, marking a memorable close to the first festival.
